Who exactly are we? Better yet, what qualifies us to write a blog offering advice on how to spruce up your mobile home and shamelessly solicit the opinions of our readers on the topic? Well I’ll tell you…

I am Heather, author of Sugar Dish Me, and current resident of a very well cared for rented mobile home in a completely rural corner of North Carolina. I am mommy to two boys that are infinitely funny, rowdy, challenging, and alternately annoying, which makes me very resourceful. I am a girlfriend to the super greatest guy anywhere, which makes me very lucky- I think luck is a pretty good life skill. Other qualifications include a few years at a “Visual and Performing Arts” school where I took pictures of eyeballs, made cookie jars to my hearts content in ceramics, and vehemently hated my contest-winning watercolor painting of potatoes. I also read magazines and spend an obsessive amount of time on Pinterest which has to count for something.

This is Chad, my boyfriend:

Just kidding.
<<–This is Chad, my boyfriend,  after crawling around under his old Mustang for several hours on a hot summer afternoon.

I have yet to come across anything he can’t fix.

He actually looks like this:

Chad’s qualifications include welding, brick-laying, car fixing, lawn mower repairing, blueprint reading, lifting completely unreasonable amounts of weight, buggy building, trench digging, garden tilling, beating things relentlessly with a hammer until they work again, and problem solving. I’m sure that I have failed to list at least 46 relevant skills; my sweetie is obviously more qualified than me.

That is why I am the creative director.

This is Andrew, my oldest son. Andrew’s most recently honed skills include mowing the lawn and watering my flowers, not just the surrounding porch. He does very well in school and also takes pride in bossing his little brother around. Andrew is pro at scrubbing the bathroom, always remembers to put his clothes in the wash, and his dishes in the sink. He is a great helper when he feels like doing it; pays alot of attention to detail and loves to draw. He followed a detailed set of printed instructions for building a miniature Tres Buchet and can make almost anything out of legos. Sometimes he is also quite proficient at mouthing off (and he comes by that very honestly).

This is Evan.

He doesn’t always look like a reject from Super Mario- he is my super cute littlest kid.

Evan is very smart, which I think will be helpful with our household projects (though fractions of any kind should be promptly handled by Andrew and Chad; Evan inherited my fractal skills). He can also make a mess faster than anyone I know which I’m sure will serve some kind of purpose…

Evan’s helpful talents also include drawing anything from cool animals to cartoons, putting labels on things and leaving little reminder notes all over the house, picking up my natural born enemy, sweet gum balls, out of the front yard, building amazing things out of legos, and shoving large amounts of clean clothes and toys under his bed.

So here we are, a happy little family, embarking on a journey to improve our house, er… mobile home. We intend to prove that you can love a dwelling and make it your own no matter its flaws and lack of acceptance in social circles.

  2. I love this post and how you have described each member of your family. I wish my better half had one-sixteenth of the skills Chad has. And Evan is adorable!! Those dimples are gonna give the girls a hard time 🙂 Beautiful family!

    • Awww thanks! I’m pretty fortunate to have acquired a better half with a boatload of skills, though I’m not sure he always appreciates the boatloads of projects I invent 🙂 I am surrounded by dimples everywhere I turn. Sometimes it’s really hard to say no. Or stay mad. But who wants to stay mad anyway? So glad you came by to visit my “extra” page 🙂
